The self-contained town at the edge of the world
Barentsburg's mine is a distinctive spot: walking in the adit, you can meet true miners going down to the departure station from where they head to their workplaces. The maximum depth of miners’ workplaces reaches 500 meters below sea level.
Next to the mine, there are historical Dutch structures, which were discovered during the period when Barentsburg's mine was managed by a company from the Netherlands.
Barentsburg's mine is the northernmost mine in the world open for visits.
Special Siberian Husky center
The town's Siberian Husky center represents nearly all northern dog breeds.
During the visit to the kennel, professional mushers accompany guests and tell the most breathtaking facts about dogs, as well as share their stories from life and work in the Arctic.
Every guest has a chance to have a ride or to drive a dog sled team in winter and a dog waggon in summer, and feel like a true Arctic traveler.
The Siberian Husky's panoramic windows of the large and cozy hall with a fireplace offer a view of "gates" to Isfjorden, the one inhabited fjord of Svalbard.
