The Svalbard archipelago is one of the highest latitude areas of Earth. It is located in the Arctic Ocean at almost equal distance from the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, Greenland, the north of mainland Norway and the North Pole. It is in the center between them.

Warm Arctic

The western shores of the Svalbard archipelago are washed by a branch of the warm Gulf Stream, which is why the temperature in the archipelago is higher than in similar areas in the same latitudes: the average summer temperature is +6 degrees, winter - 15 degrees.

Next to the mine, there have been remained Dutch structures, which were built in early XX century.

Piramiden

This is a Russian mining town abandoned in 1998.

The town was called due to the pyramid-shaped mountain, at the bottom of which the town was established.

Barentsburg

Barentsburg is a one-of-a-kind town with the population of 300 people.

As from the books about the rough post-apocalyptic future, the town is a separate industrial and social complex with all vital facilities.

Grumant and Kolsbey

Grumant is a town where bituminous coal deposits were first discovered.

After that, the first coal mine was built here.

Nature - glaciers, flora and fauna

With all its seeming Arctic solitudes, Svalbard's nature is incredibly diverse and beautiful.

Peaked mountains, waterfalls, crystal lakes and innumerable glaciers, a part of which is accessible only in summer or winter.
